Anita Ekberg

Marianne Ekberg (Swedish pronunciation (listen) 29 September 1931-11 January
2015.) was an Swedish actress, famous for her stunning physique and attractive
appearance. She gained notoriety for her character in the role of Sylvia in the
Federico Fellini film La Dolce Vita (1960). Ekberg was born in Sweden on 29
September 1931. She was the sixth child of eight. As a teenager, Anita worked
as a fashion model. Ekberg entered the Miss Malmo competition in 1950 at her
mother's urging. She took home the Miss Sweden contest. Despite not speaking
much English the contestant traveled to the United States to compete for the
1951 Miss Universe title (an unofficial pageant in that period, the pageant
became official in 1952). Ekberg was not the Miss Universe winner, but she was
one of six finalists. She did however earn the contract of Universal Studios as
a starlet. Ekberg was an Universal starletin which she learned acting, dancing,
and drama. She did a brief appearance in The Mississippi Gambler (1953), Abbott
and Costello go to Mars (1953), Take Me to Town (1953) and The Golden Blade
(53).
